About Ketamine

Ketamine was first approved for humans in the 1970's. Its current classification is that of an anesthetics that has sedative and pain relieving qualities. When used for depression ketamine gives a sense of disconnect from ones surroundings and self. This disconnect can allow the person to have feelings of enhanced creativity, purpose, and inspiration. It can also help individuals feel more open to new ideas. Hallucinations are not uncommon on certain doses of ketamine.

Ketamine is a safe medication, but it is not without risk. Ketamine can cause instances of dependence, bladder issues, and accidents. During a therapy session with ketamine it is important to be in a safe place and not need to move around for at least 1 hour after taking the medication. This will help make sure that no accidents happen while you are in an altered state. This is also why we require you to have a trusted person being in your home during treatment so that they can help you move if needed. Please talk with your provider about risks and benefits of ketamine.

Music during ketamine can sound a lot different then during normal daily life. On ketamine sometimes voices or singing can be very distracting and sometimes not sound good at all. We recommend music with no singing in it and have linked a playlist from spotify and youtube below to make sure you can at least have one playlist that matches well with ketamine. For other questions about music and ketamine please feel free to reach out to your provider.
